<p>Features:                      The Good Shepherd Health and Technology Center, based in Allentown, PA, is a nationally-recognized rehabilitation leader, offering a continuum of care for people with physical and mental disabilities.</p>
<p>                                    It has 82 total beds at its Allentown campus, 12 at Pocono, and 12 at Easton.  It is CARF-accredited for stroke, brain injury and CIIRP.  The staff includes 62 PT’s and 40 OT’s.</p>

<p>                                    It is a fusion of multidisciplinary rehabilitation, today’s newest technology, and state-of-the-art products and accessories.  Under one roof, the Health and Technology Center, a $40M investment, offers an array of advanced outpatient therapies, one of the region’s leading neurorehabilitation centers, and Good Shepherd’s world-renowned pediatrics program.  The Health and Technology Center is also home to the Harry C. Trexler Center for Assistive Technology.  Good Shepherd currently specializes in the following assistive technology:</p>

<li>Balancemaster, a testing and training device that provides quantitative measurement components of balance.</li>
<li>IREX Virtual Relaity Augmented Therapy has been shown to improve reaction time, facilitate patterning of movement and movement strategies and engage patients in their therapy and overcome “platueaus”</li>
<li>FES Bike, provides electrical stimulation of muscles to increase strength and endurance, improve cardiovascular fitness and decrease spasticity, swelling, tightness and the rate of osteoporosis in stimulated extremities</li>
<li>Body Weight Supported Equipment such as the Litegait and Robomedica helps progress weight-bearing according to a patient’s needs, in a quantifiable manner, while providing a high level of stability.</li>
<li>VitalStim treats dysphasia better and faster that any traditional therapy.  A small, carefully-calibrated electrical current is delivered to the throat muscles responsible for swallowing.</li>
<li>REO Therapy by Motorika – Upper extremity robotic therapy device to treat and restore function to an individual.</li>
<li>Gait Rite system – Advanced evaluation and treatment tool for gait disorders.</li>
<li>Parastep system – A specialized walker that has an incorporated electrical stimulation and computer technology to assist individuals with paraplegia to ambulate.</li>

<p>In their continuum of care, the Center offers a LTACH, comprehensive inpatient and outpatient programs, as well as a fitness/wellness program that has accessible equipment for the SCI population.  They also offer a follow-up program that is run by a rehab nurse and has an established support group for their patients.</p>
